As long as I can remember, I have been
expressing myself through art. Some of my
earliest memories are making my own greeting
cards at the ripe old age of five. To say
the least, art is neither my profession or
hobby. It is my passion.
Naturally, when it came time to choose a
path in college I chose art. I completed my
B.F.A in Painting and Printmaking at
Virginia Commonwealth University with an
emphasis in lithography (a lost art) and
printmaking. Always, however, painting
remained my primary tool for expression.
The bulk of my work tends to be the still
life. I enjoy trying to capture the essence
of the glass and reflections without exact
replication. My goal is interpretation.
Painting, like any art, is about emotion.
When you concentrate too much on perfectly
recreating your subject you cross that line
from artist to craftsperson. I choose to be
an artist.
I feel as though my strengths lie in color
and composition. I try to apply these skills
to every facet of my artistic endeavors
which I believe has led to an identifiable
style. Whether I’m painting a still life, a
landscape or a portrait, I think they all
reflect my style and abilities.
As time has passed I have expanded into
other art forms, such as jewelry making and
photography. I feel that trying these new
mediums has expanded my vision and opened my
eyes to new ideas as a painter.
So, please look around at my work. Let me
know what you think. If you like it, please
go to the Scribbles Store and purchase an
original or a print. Whether you buy or not,
thanks for checking us out.
NOTE: Soon Scribbles Studios will be
expanding to represent other fine artists.
